Colocation at Privex Datacenters

Pricing on this page is not guaranteed!

Please be aware that pricing on this page is not guaranteed to be what you'd pay, colocation pricing is complicated and can vary depending on your individual usecase and needs. These prices should be used as simply a rough guide of the base price for "average" setups, and is subject to change when you get a colocation quote from us.

Colocation at Privex Datacenters

Privex offers colocation in some of our datacenters - generally our autonomous regions where we have almost full control over our hardware and networking.

Colocation is where you buy rack space, networking, and power - rather than a server itself, which you can then install various rack equipment such as dedicated servers, switches, routers, physical KVMs, and possibly other hardware too. It allows you almost unlimited flexibility and customisation with your server hardware and networking, as you're in full control over which hardware you install, and optionally full control over your network if you bring your own network equipment too.

Server racks are generally measured in "Units" (U), which is a specific width/height measurement specification that rack hardware follows, an average 4 bay HDD or 8 bay SSD server such as a Dell Poweredge R620 takes up 1U, while some hardware take up more than 1U, such as the Dell PowerEdge R720 which takes up 2U, or the Cisco 7600 router which takes up 7U.

A "full rack" tends to be either 40U, 42U, or 48U - while a "half rack" is 20U, 22U, or 24U. Those phrases aren't consistent between providers, partially because the physical racks can also come in different sizes themselves, thus it's possible for 40U "full rack" to really be the entire physical rack.

We offer a variety of colocation sizes, from as small as 1U, to as big as 42U or even 48U in some of our regions. Please note that rack sizes above 20U do not have a reference price on this page, if you're wanting more than 20U you'll need to get a quote from us to find out the price, as we'd likely need to buy a new rack from the datacenter to fit that amount of units.

Assisted purchases and setup

If you don't know what server hardware or network equipment is best for your needs and budget, we can help you find the hardware that's right for you, we can even buy the hardware for you, shipped directly to one of our datacenters, if that's helpful for you.

If you're colocating more than 4U and want to run your own network, we have an article which suggests switches and router models to help you find a switch/router that's right for you. Alternatively, you can ask us, and we can consult you about your needs, and find a switch/router that fits your needs and your budget.

If you're not sure how to initially setup a server or network equipment that you want to colocate with us, please contact us before colocating them, and we can either give you advice on setting them up yourself (if possible), or we can do the initial setup for you - though it may incur a charge depending on the amount of work that needs to be done, and the datacenter you're colocating in.

Our network technicians have experience with Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, Juniper JunOS, MikroTik RouterOS, Arista EOS, Quanta, and certain other switch/router vendor's device OS/software, so we'd be able to assist you with your networking if you were to colocate a switch/router. This may incur a charge depending on the specific setup you're wanting help with, especially advanced setup - though we may offer free assistance with the initial setup to get your switch/router connected to our network at first.

Regions / Datacenters

Sweden - Obenetwork aka Obehosting Kista Gate datacenter

For our Sweden region, we're located in Obenetwork's Kista Gate (KG) datacenter, located in the city Kista within the Stockholm area, whom are a privacy/freedom focused datacenter, known for being the home of several controversial websites and services.

If you're hosting something that requires a high level of legal protection, this is the ideal location for it.

Remote hands (a physical person at the datacenter doing something to your equipment in-person, such as plugging in cables / installing a device into the rack) at this datacenter is relatively cheap, we're able to offer remote hands in our SE datacenter from as little as $20/hr, and for minor work which is non-urgent and you're happy waiting up to a few days, we can sometimes offer remote hands for free (e.g. simply plugging in or unplugging a flash drive or a single cable with a 3-7 day response time would be free)

Netherlands - Interxion AMS9

For our Amsterdam, Netherlands region, we're located in the Interxion AMS9 datacenter, located in the city of Amsterdam, and are a major datacenter, home to many companies networks, and has a wide variety of transit providers and peering options available for customers who want to bring their own network equipment.

Our NL datacenter has much cheaper networking than our SE datacenter, but power is much more expensive. This region is better for those who need a lot of bandwidth or network speed.

Please be aware that remote hands (a physical person at the datacenter doing something to your equipment in-person, such as plugging in cables / installing a device into the rack) is relatively expensive at this datacenter, for non-urgent remote hands (1 business day response time) we charge $140/hr, while for urgent rapid-response (within 2 hrs) remote hands we charge between $190 to $250/hr depending on whether it's within the DC's normal business hours or not.
